Mirrorball
Artist: Sarah McLachlan
Genre: Alternative
Year: 1999
Rating: 8 / 10
I'm a big fan of live albums, and Sarah McLachlan's venture into the genre, Mirrorball does not disappoint. Dominated with songs from the extremely successful album Surfacing, as well as its predecessor Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, McLachlan belts out hit after hit that should be familiar to just about anyone who has ever listened to an adult contemporary radio station.
The biggest treat of the album is the fact that it contains one of the only recordings of the haunting song, "I Will Remember You." Until this CD, McLachlan's signature anthem could only be heard on The Brothers McMullen soundtrack and import CDs. Oh yeah, and that one long distance commercial.
The live aspect of the CD can be cool, particularly on tracks such as "Ice Cream", where McLachlan invites the audience to sing along with her. Nevertheless, I cannot help but argue that McLachlan's studio albums are better. McLachlan's fans listen to her because of her special voice, and sometimes the beauty of it is unfortunately lost on the live recording.
