Catching Prospect Goes AWOL

NEW ORLEANS - Solstice at Avalon owner Avon was shocked to learn recently that star C/3B Michael Barrett had been reported as being AWOL by his parent club, the Montreal Expos. Despite hitting a not-so-robust .189, Barrett is credited by Avon as delivering a "championship ingredient" to the Solstice ball club. It is not known yet how Avon plans to replace Barrett in his everyday lineup, though sources have indicated that troubled prodigy Eli Marrero was seen hopping a plane to New Orleans this past weekend.

Just The Man Keeping Us Down

ARLINGTON - Charges of conspiracy have been leveled at ESPN by Ridicules owner Puff Daddy, AP sources report. First angered by a report that suggested that former Braves star Steve Avery was having control problems in AA, Puff Daddy exploded when ESPN recently broke a story about Barry Larkin's health.

With Derek Jeter down with an injury and a possible candidate for the Disabled List, Puff Daddy contemplated activating the perpetually-frail Cincinnati shortstop. ESPN, however, reported that Larkin's injury would produce a weekend return date at the earliest. Imagine Puff Daddy's surprise when he saw Larkin in action that very night. It is not known as yet whether or not the volatile owner will press any formal charges.

Patience is a Virtue... For Some

SAN DIEGO - Protestors in San Diego have rallied outside of Westbank Bombers owner Harpoon's residence, demanding to know the reason why local goat Donne Wall remains on the Bomber's roster. Despite not contributing a win or a save and delivering an ERA above 5.00, Wall remains on the team's active roster. Investors in the club have contemplated legal action, hoping to force the enigmatic owner to take action on this hopeless reliever. When contacted, representatives for the Bombers declined comment.
