Critics Corner: Do We Need Another Rambo?

The Hollywood landscape was a lot different in 1982, when John Rambo first appeared on the scene. First Blood offered us an initial glimpse at one of Sylvester’s Stallone’s two iconic characters – the other being Rocky Balboa – and, over the course of the next six years, we welcomes him into cinemas two more times. Twenty years would pass before Rambo was released, and, I’m surprised to admit, it’s a fairly entertaining action movie. Who knew a sixty-one-year-old actor could pull that off?!

What's New in the Warehouse?

Horror Can Be a Mixed Bag

Film fans do not tend to expect much from horror films, but that does not mean that their expectations are always met. In the case of Turistas, expectations were definitely not met. In fact, rather than a clever, engaging film – or even one with a few thrills and chills – we are presented with a fairly bland, run-of-the-mill horror movie. Watch The Exorcist on video for the umpteenth time rather than give this offering even two minutes of your time.

WHERE IS IT?

Time has passed, but do not pretend you’re still not asking yourself that question. Where Is the Island? I do not pretend to have the definitive answer – although I have my theories – but this mystery has prompted me to start something I should have begun a long time ago. With my Live Journal blog focusing on fatherhood and those crazy little kids, this new effort is solely entertainment. If you’d care to see what’s tickling my fancy, just ask, Where Is the Island?
